INTRODUCTION

ImageDiscerner is a convenient program for comparison of images.

Features:

• Fast visual comparison of images;
• Creation of the images based on distinctions of compared files (19 types);
• The analysis of separate pixels of compared images;
• Construction of 7 types of histograms of color channels RGB and HSB;
• Calculation of total of the pixels differing on color, quantities of unique colors;
• Calculation of percentage parameters of similarity of compared images and the maximal deviations of color

THE OPERATING PROCEDURE

1. Opening and closing of files.

Open the image "A" ( File - Open image "A"...).
Open the image "B" (File - Open image "B"...).
You can close one or both images (File - Close).

After opening the second file become accessible:

• fast visual comparison of images (View - Show image "A" / "B");
• commands of change of scale (View - Zoom in / Zoom out);
• command of comparison (File - Compare images).

At prompting the cursor on the image the tool "eyedropper" automatically becomes active.
To the right of "eyedropper" are located:

• sample of color of the chosen pixel;
• values of color channels RGB (and / or HSB) the chosen pixel;
• parameter of difference of pixels dRGB = dR + dG + dB

Move "eyedropper" on the image, using the mouse, for reception of the information on the chosen pixels.
Keep the left button of the mouse, for scrolling the image.
Click by the middle button of the mouse or pressing of a "Space" button are similar to a command of the menu (View - Show image "A" / "B").

2. Comparison of images.

Apply a command of the menu " the File - Compare images ".

Choose type of a difference map*, set a level of contrast.

After end of calculations, the program will create a difference map*, and in the right panel following parameters are deduced:

• quantity of unique colors in images "A" and "B";
• parameters of relative noise level of images;
• percentage parameters of similarity of images (channels R, G, B and grey channel GRAY=R*0.3+G*0.6+B*0.1);
• maximal deviations of color channels;
• percentage parameter of quantity of the changed pixels.

Besides after comparison the program will create 7 histograms on channels: RGB, Red, Green, Blue, Hue, Saturation, Brightness. You can display them by means of a command of the menu "View - Show histograms..." serially. On each of histograms the information is presented under two images at once:

You can save histograms ("File - Save histograms... ") and difference maps ("File - Save difference maps... "). Numerical results of comparison can be copied simply from the right panel.

* "Difference map" is the image based on distinctions of compared files.
